Last week, by boss promoted me to manager of my store. I’ve been working at the convenience store for three years, and I was happy to receive a promotion. My convenience store sells items like coffee, snacks, and cold drinks. We also have Lottery, gas, and beer. I was excited about the promotion, because it was a $2 an hour raise. I also received benefits and two weeks of paid vacation. It’s only been a few days, but being a manager has been a nightmare. It’s been one problem after another, and the boss doesn’t seem too helpful from day to day. Three days ago, one of our drink coolers stopped working. I didn’t realize the cooler wasn’t working, until someone complained about a warm Coke in the refrigerator. I checked the cooler, and the indoor thermometer was reading 71 degrees. I immediately called the HVAC company that services our gas station refrigeration equipment. They didn’t have an HVAC technician available to meet our demand. I waited all day, before they finally sent an HVAC technician to fix the refrigerator. During that time, we lost $600 worth of dairy merchandise. After the HVAC technician fix the problem with our cooler, we had a problem with the gas pumps. I thought it would be easy to be a manager, but I’m just running around like a chicken with no head. I should have never accepted the promotion, and now I wish that I could go back to being a regular shift employee. There isn’t enough money in the world to deal with these awful problems.
